Maharashtra and PSPB Woman Grandmaster Soumya Swaminathan won her maiden Premier National women chess title, defeating second seed and statemate Eesha Karavade in the 11th and final round at the 37th edition of the championship, which concluded here at Infosys campus today.
Former World junior champion Soumya finished with 8.5 points to pocket the top prize of Rs 1 lakh. She won seven games, drew three and lost one to Pratyusha Bodda (AP). Maharashtra WGM Swati Ghate emerged runner-up with eight points and received Rs 70,000. She won six games, drew four and lost one to top seed Tania Sachdev.
